2 stars for competency.
I took my GF's trek bike in three times to a well known competitor in the milwaukee area for a very noticeable brake squeal. Each time they gave me new brake pads and resurfaced the wheel that's just about it. The problem literally came back as soon as I got home in all instances and in one instance it happened as soon as I received the bike back (literally in front of the guy). I have also been to two separate locations of this competitor and received the same smug attitude.
I had no problem accepting it since it appeared the problem was resolved. I received the bike back and upon taking it home it did it again, but the difference is that I gave her a call afterword and experienced no resistance and was asked to bring it back in so we could go through with the wheel replacement. This time they were able to reproduce the noise and determined that it was indeed the wheel itself that was somehow squeaking. What I liked be about this though was that she continued to try and find out what the cause was even through the wheel was going to be replaced. I like this about people because it shows a genuine curiosity and it shows that they care a great deal about their customers. I also like the fact that she actually explained what she thought was causing it unlike the competitor.
I like to take my bike here to get it tuned up. They do a really good job, my bike feels like new, and it was done quickly.
This shop is conveniently located on the Oak leaf trail so if you've got an issue on a ride it's an easy place to stop. I had a wheel rub issue during a ride and needing a couple tweaks. The young man helping me was very friendly and did what he could but after an hour and $22 I wasn't a whole lot better off. What's more, when I left I hit my rear brake and almost ran into something because they neglected to reconnect it after their work. I fixed it myself and got home.
A couple days later I took it in and met Cary who I believe is the owner of "Extreme ski and bike" She is very easy to talk to and she took the time to listen to me. I explained my issue to her and instead of just ripping the bike apart she genuinely wanted to find out what was causing it. She asked if she could try some things and since it was winter I had no problem with her keeping the bike for a while to diagnose the issue.
the best sales and service and always personable. ive been a customer since they opened and know of many who have had the best of care
4 stars for helpfulness and attitude.
Extreme has a great selection of small parts. This store is usually the difference between riding and waiting for a special order.
She gave me a call later that week and said that she thought she solved it and gave me a very detailed explaination as to what it was but also said that If I still wanted the wheel replaced that I could do that as well and it was up to me.
Great place for bike service and to buy bikes!
I am extremely satisfied with the level of communication from Cary and I appreciate that she did not treat me as if I knew nothing and most of all didn't have the smug attitude that I've run into everywhere else. her business has won me over and I will always bring my bikes to her for maintenance and purchase bikes from her store.
At my wit's end I finally called trek support and described my issue and also requested that the maintenance be done at this location because IMO it couldn't get much worse. After a rather short and promising discussion with Kagen from Trek support I was told to take it to Extreme Ski and Bike and that he would personally call the owner and explain the issue. (BTW thank you Kagen, you're the first person who actually listened to me!)
Willing to help me out in a pinch, but ultimately didn't really help.
After the second time this occurred I did some self diagnosis by swapping the front wheel of the bike with that of a bike that had an identical front wheel. the problem was transferred to the other bike which said to me that the problem is the wheel itself. I tried to explain this to the competitor but again was given a very smug "we know what we are doing" attitude and was treated as if I was a pest.
